Local Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A senior representative said the attack made him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
