A person who spiked candy with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two children aged nine and 10.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on Friday.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a young boy.
Ruben was kept in jail prior to a further hearing on 28 November.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he ran.
Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the situation, justifiably.
"They decided to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC stated items including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his suspicions.
She stated the man continued to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson called the law enforcement again.
She explained Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
